Sehnsucht of the spirit

Earthly desires and pursuits surely gratifies, but it does not truly satisfy. That deep yearning (“sehnsucht”) in the spirit is like a liberty bell whose chimes we seek to find in all the wrong places. Thereby incurring disappointment upon disappointment, unhappiness upon unhappiness, addictions upon addictions, weariness upon weariness, and attachments upon attachments. Yet it’s tones still reverberate unfulfilled like a call from eternity that urges the soul towards the great turningpoint where, like the prodigal son, he might finally turn and commence the journey towards home with all his fervor. For as it moves in this direction, the familiar sounds of home, the true home, gets louder and louder. Only in the movement in this direction does supreme happiness and infinite peace gradually enter and swell the depths of his soul in gratulation. The eternal bliss that truly satisfies and is a heritage of the human spirit. The bliss that is the perpetual experiencing of the Nature of God through oneness with the Laws of the Universe that reflect His Perfect Will.

Therein lies the real goal toward which the deepest longings and yearnings of the human spirit urges.
